About Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a small picturesque country situated in South East Europe on the Balkan Peninsula . Mountains cover a great deal of the country with the Balkan Mountains running west to east through the centre of Bulgaria . The Rila and Pirin mountains are located in the southwest and the Rodopi range in the South. Bulgaria boasts stunning views, untouched forests, numerous lakes, hot springs and magnificent peaks. Its villages remain unspoiled by modern technologies and are yet easily accessible, with great places to stay and delicious local food and drink to sample.

Bulgaria is perhaps most famous for its wine, yoghurt and the oil rose. It is a country renowned for it's ancient traditions and is one of the worlds major "Old World" wine producers. In fact, fine wine has been produced here since the Thracian times.

Rose oil is grown in the Kazanluk valley, also known as the " Valley of Roses ". Visiting this area in Spring and taking part in the famous Rose Festival events at the beginning of the crop picking period is a 'must'. Only then can one truly understand why Bulgaria is known as "The Land of the Roses".
